Initial End User Setup for a Tablet Connected to Direct IT Android MDM Platform

Introduction

Welcome to the initial setup guide for connecting your tablet to the Direct IT Android MDM platform. This manual will walk you through the necessary steps to ensure your device is properly configured and ready for use. Please follow each step carefully to avoid any issues.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have the following:
  1. A compatible Android tablet
  2. Tablet must be fully charged.
  3. Stable internet connection
  4. Direct IT Android MDM QR Code

Step 1: Power On the Tablet

Press and hold the power button until the tablet turns on.

Step 2: Initialise MDM Connection

As the devices will be classed as "Company Owned," there is no need to create or sign in to a Google Account. Instead, follow these steps:
  1. On the very initial welcome screen, tap the screen 6 times in the same spot to enter Device Owner mode. It will then ask toscan the QR Code
  2. Join the Wi-Fi to connect to the internet.
  3. It will then have a message “Getting Ready for Work Setup” This may take a short while.
  4. Follow the next three steps
    1. Set a Screen Lock – Create a 6 digit PIN. This can be changed later either centrally, or by the user
    2. Then click Install Work Apps.
    3. Then click Continue Enrolment – Then Continue. Cancelling will reset the device.
  5. Accept any Google Services settings.
  6. You can ignore the device specific settings, for e.g. creating a Lenovo Account, etc by tapping Finish Device Setup.
  7. You’ll then be taken to the tablets home screen. Please be patient whilst the apps are installed.

Step 3: End User Config.

  1. Open Each Microsoft 365 app, and ensure it’s logged in with your email and password.
  2. Change the Screen Time Out to something youprefer (Default is 30 seconds.)
  3. Change the PIN to something you prefer.

If you encounter any issues during the setup process, try the following:
  1. Ensure the tablet is connected to a stable internet connection
  2. Restart the tablet and retry the steps
  3. Contact Direct IT support for further assistance
