if your W56H/W73H/78H handset or the base station it is registered with are malfunctioning or require updates you or your phone system administrator may want to do one of the following:
Restarting the Handset or Base Station
Restarting the base station is usually a safe and easy method to resolve functionality issues. However, you may want to consult your phone system administrator first to make sure the issues are not related to network problems or other external causes.
Also, since restarting the base station will cause any active or holding calls to be disconnected, you should alert any users connected to the base station before performing the restart. An easy way to do so is with the handset DECT intercom feature, selecting the All Handsets option.
To restart the base station via the handset:
The registration LED and network status LED go out simultaneously. When the base station restarts successfully the LED indicators will illuminate solid green again.
You can also restart the base station using the web user interface at the path Settings>Upgrade. (Note the difference between finding the IP address for W70B single-cell and W80B/W90B multi-cell configurations.)
Changes in the phone system or office network may cause issues with your handset. To restore compatibility or to apply new settings, your system administrator may ask you to update the handset's configuration after he has prepared the relevant configuration file. The process will be completed automatically using an auto-provisioning configuration.
To update the phone's configuration:
You can upgrade the firmware on either the base station or the handset.
Firmware files can be found and downloaded from the Yealink support portal. See the relevant pages for W73H, W56H, and W78H handsets. All of these pages also have the firmware file for the W70B (single-cell) base station, which can also be found on its dedicated page.
The file should be stored on a computer, mobile device, or local network location that can be accessed by the web interface.
If you are using a multi-cell base station (Yealink W80 or W90) please refer to this article for instructions on how to perform a firmware upgrade.
Firmware Upgrade Considerations
Before upgrading to the latest firmware you should read the related firmware notes (if available) and possibly consult with Yealink's support to ensure there are no compatibility issues or other potential conflicts. If such issues or conflicts do happen after an upgrade you may need to downgrade to a previous firmware version or perform a factory reset.
Checking the Current Firmware Version
You can check the current firmware installed on the base station or a handset to see if an update is indeed required.

Performing the Firmware Upgrade
Once you have downloaded the relevant firmware files from the Yealink support portal, the upgrade can be easily done using the web user interface.
To upgrade the base station or handset firmware:
The upgrading process will take a few minutes. The power indicator LED on the base station flashes during the firmware upgrading process.
Do not power off the handset or the base station during the upgrade.
Once the base station firmware has been successfully upgraded it will reboot automatically. The handset will perform an auto registration to the base station.
You can factory reset either the base station or each individual handset/phone registered to it.
Factory reset is only recommended after you have tried all other troubleshooting suggestions since it will delete all your personal configuration settings and reset them to the factory defaults. It is advisable you contact us (if you have an account with us) or your phone system administrator before attempting a factory reset to see if the issues with your phone may be resolved without it and to ensure your phone can be properly provisioned and configured if a reset is indeed required.
The factory reset process may take a few minutes. Do not power off the phone until it has started up successfully!
You can reset the base station from either the base station or a handset.
Resetting from the base station will clear all settings while resetting from a handset will keep the base station PIN and handset registration.
To reset the base station from the base station:
To reset the base station from the handset:
You can also reset the base station via the web user interface at the path Settings>Upgrade by clicking Reset to factory.
Resetting the handset will not affect the directory, call history, voicemail, and the handset registration to the base station. Other customized settings will be reset to factory settings.
