Delete and recover files in Microsoft Teams

Delete a file from OneDrive

  1. Open OneDrive OneDrive icon in Teams.

  2. Select My files  OneDrive My files icon.

  3. Hover over the file you want to delete and select More actions  OD more horizontal icon > Delete  OD recycle bin icon.

Your file will be moved to Recycle bin

Recover a file from OneDrive

  1. Open OneDrive OneDrive icon in Teams.

  2. Select Recycle bin  OD recycle bin icon.

  3. Find the file you want to recover.

  4. Right-click the file and select Restore.

The file will be restored to the last location it was stored. 

Delete a file from a channel

  1. Go to the Files tab in a channel.

  2. Find the file you want to delete.

  3. Hover over the file and select More options More options button > Delete.

    To delete several files at once, hover over each file and select the circled check mark in the left column. Then hover over one of the files and select More options More options button > Delete.

You can remove a file from a chat message you've already sent by editing the message

Recover a deleted channel file

  1. Open a channel and select the Files tab.

  2. Select Open in SharePoint at the top of the page.

  3. In SharePoint, select Toggle navigation pane  Chrome menu icon > Recycle bin.

  4. Hover over the file(s) you want to recover and select the circled check mark in the left column of the file's row.

  5. Select Restore .

The file will be restored to the last location it was stored.
